In the streams, cowskins mould themselves to the rocks. Along the riverside, the torrent rushes through the cauldrons. In the distance, hands polish metal and trim wood.

Paul Charmes (b. 1990) grew up on the banks of the Vienne. It is on the plains of Limousin and the waters of the Corrèze that he confirmed his interest in craftsmanship. It is also in this region that he chose to have his pieces manufactured, working closely with local workshops. The rigour of traditional expertise is complemented by a deep respect for raw materials, fashioned in a refined and ecstatic way.

Trained in mechanical engineering, he developed a keen attention to systems, technical precision and resource efficiency. He then introduced these values into his practice, which was further developed through his studies in design and applied arts in Lyon. Drawing on industrial culture and rural craftsmanship, he aims to reinterpret and reappropriate traditional techniques.

In his work, furniture and accessories interact with the spaces they inhabit. Neither purely decorative nor strictly functional, the pieces are conceived as presences of their own, coexisting with their users. Leather, wood and metal are enhanced by bright colours and playful gestures, which guide the manufacturing process and the way objects are perceived. Visible joints, clean cuts, bold finishes: Paul Charmes skilfully draws on his industrial experience, adapting it to serve the form.
The object is never static. It folds, articulates, transforms. It responds to simple movements, offers open uses, fits in without imposing itself. Its design is a discreet but determined manifesto of co-living: modular, situated, conscious pieces that pay homage to the art of contemporary living. A gentle way of making the functional a field of invention.
